PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine pregnancy of a domestic animal which has little influence on a target animal and a fetus and can be carried out at a breeding site. SOLUTION: The present invention uses a sample containing mucosal epithelial cells collected from the reproductive organs of a test repellent animal from the cervical canal to the genital organ during the period corresponding to the early pregnancy to obtain IFN-τ in the mucosal epithelial cells. A measurement step for measuring the expression level of a molecule induced in response, and a test worm animal by comparing the expression level with the expression level of the molecule in the corresponding mucosal epithelial cells of a non-pregnant homologous genital animal. The present invention relates to a method for determining pregnancy of an epithelial animal, which comprises a determination step for determining pregnancy. According to the present invention, it is possible to promptly determine pregnancy after mating, artificial insemination or fertilized egg transplantation before a new ovulation cycle begins.
