PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel method for inhibiting xanthine oxidase activity, and reducing uric acid level.SOLUTION: Provided is a method for reducing uric acid levels comprising administering to a subject suffering from gout or hyperuricemia a composition obtained by culturing Gluconacetobacter hansenii or Acetobacter pasteurianus in a culture medium to inhibit xanthine oxidase. Also provided is a composition comprising a metabolite of Gluconacetobacter hansenii or Acetobacter pasteurianus for reducing the uric acid levels in a subject, as well as a method for manufacturing the composition.SELECTED DRAWING: None
