Provided is an alloy steel powder for powder metallurgy which compresses excellently and can produce a sintered body having improved strength while sintered.　The alloy steel powder for powder metallurgy contains between 1.0% by mass and 8.0% by mass inclusive of Cu, more than 0.50% by mass but no more than 2.00% by mass of Mo, one or more selected from the group consisting of between 0.05% by mass and 0.50% by mass inclusive of V, between 0.02% by mass and 0.40% by mass inclusive of Nb, and between 0.02% by mass and 0.40% by mass inclusive of Ti, and the balance Fe and unavoidable impurities.
