To provide a positive electrode material which can offer a more superior lithium ion battery and which is adjusted in the ratio of monocrystal particles and secondary particles formed by agglomeration of monocrystal particles.SOLUTION: A positive electrode material is represented by the general formula, LiNiCoMnMOwhere 1.0≤a≤1.2, 0.00≤b≤0.05, 0.30≤x≤0.60, 0.10≤y≤0.40, 0.15≤z≤0.30 and x+y+z=1, and M element represents one or more elements selected from Mg, Ti, Al, Zr, Y, W, Mn, Ba and a rare earth element. The areal percentage of secondary particles formed by agglomeration of 10 or less primary monocrystal particles is over 80% under a scanning electron microscope; the areal percentage of secondary particles by agglomeration of more than 10 primary monocrystal particles is smaller than 20% or equal to 20%.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
