The present invention relates to an anti-obesity and anti-diabetic composition comprising an Oreopanax COSTARICENSIS (OC) extract or a fraction thereof as an active ingredient. The OC extracts and fractions inhibited differentiation into adipocytes and glucose uptake in vitro, and as a result of the OGTT (Oral glucose tolerance test) evaluation in vivo, it was confirmed that they have antidiabetic efficacy. Accordingly, the composition comprising the OC extract or a fraction thereof of the present invention as an active ingredient exhibits anti-obesity and anti-diabetic effects, and thus can be usefully used in the prevention or treatment of obesity or diabetes.
