This separator for a square-shaped non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery is obtained by layering a porous layer on a microporous polyolefin film. The microporous film satisfies formulae (1) to (3). The porous layer satisfies the formula (4) and contains inorganic particles and a swellable resin containing a vinylidene fluoride copolymer in which the content of hexafluoropropylene is 2.5-6.0 mol%. Formula (1): 8 ≤ t ≤ 20 (t is the thickness (μm) of the microporous polyolefin film)Formula (2): 0.09 ≤ N ≤ 0.14 (N is the nanoindentation value of the microporous polyolefin film)Formula (3): C ≤ 4.0 (C is the creep value of the microporous polyolefin film)Formula (4): 0.55 ≤ Q ≤ 1.10 (Q is the weight per unit area (g/m2 of a resin component in the porous layer)
