A METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR MONITORING AN ENGINE CYLINDER IN AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE, A METHOD AND DEVICE FOR CONTROLLING COMBUSTION IN SAID ENGINE CYLINDER AND AN IGNITION APPARATUS FOR AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
A method for monitoring an engine cylinder (100) in an internal combustion engine comprises, for each engine cycle, a detection of the ionisation current (ION), which is generated in the cylinder (100) in a predetermined time interval (dT) of a combustion cycle, a generation of a first signal (S1) representative of the detected ionisation current (ION) and a comparison of a maximum value of a first signal (S1) with a pre-set threshold value (TR). Successively, it is envisaged to change the value of one or more parameters associated with the first signal (S1) with respect to an equal number of corresponding reference values (REF) when the maximum value of the first signal (S1) exceeds the threshold value (TR), in order to reduce the maximum value of said first signal (S1) in the predetermined time interval (dT) of a successive combustion cycle. The method comprises an identification of a condition of the presence of water in the cylinder (100) when the maximum value of the first signal (S1) exceeds the pre-set threshold value (TR) for a predetermined first number of combustion cycles occurring within a predetermined period of time.
