Salt, common.-Rock salt, or other impure salt, is vaporized, and the vapour carried off, by a gaseous fluid, pure salt, in non-hygroscopic particles, depositing in another chamber. The reverberatory furnace shown is suitable. It consists of a bed a, upon which the impure salt is placed, having a roof c in which is a charging-opening d provided with a door e. At one side is a tuyÞre g, having air and gas supply pipes g1, g2, the flame entering through an opening f. The salt vapour and burnt heating- gases leave by an opening h, adjustable in size by means of the door i.
