5116. Brown, R. March 17. Filling grain into sacks, after being discharged in bulk from vessels &c. A grain receptacle b, Fig. 1, is mounted upon a wheeled base a to which is also attached an elevator e, for filling the receptacle. The grain is discharged through shoots c into sacks on the weighing-machine c'. A sliding valve on the neck of the shoot is operated automatically to cut off the supply when a given weight has been put into a sack. Fig. 2 shows the apparatus for effectiog this. The sliding plate f is attached to one end of a pivoted lever g, the other end of which is attached by a rod g1 to a lever g3. When the weights on the scale are balanced, the pan which bears on the end l of a lever j3, rises and allows a spring w2 to act and transmit a pull by a cord h to toggle links j, thus bringing the spring q into action to operate the lever g3 and close the valve f.
