May 5. .Gilding and silvering; ornamenting.-Animal membranes, such as intestines 'of sheep and swine, are washed and freed from grease, and coated with a solution of gelatine and a chromic salt ; gold, silver, or other metal leaf is applied to the coated surface, and the other surface of the membrane is then exposed to light &c. to harden the gelatine.
