9346. Foster, W. J. May 21. Blast for blast furnaces; blastfurnace charges.- Carbon, fluxes, and mixtures of carbon and fluxes may be introduced with the blast into blast furnaces, or may be introduced independently at or near the level of the tuyÞres. The carbon may be in the form of coke, breeze, charcoal, or anthracite, and should be practically free from moisture and hydrocarbons. The Provisional Specification states also that sodium, calcium, aluminium, magnesium, manganese, silicon, &c. may be injected into the furnace, as fluxes.
