摘要
13,659. Wulkan, H., and Straetz, H. July 30. Glucose.-Relates to a process for obtaining dry starch, or starch syrup or sugar, and gluten or albumen, from maize, wheat, rice, &c. The husks and germs are removed from the grain by the usual process employed in the manufacture of starch, and the starch milk, still containing albumen, is drained in depositing-vats or centrifugal chambers. The moist starch is treated in vacuum extraction apparatus with strong hot spirit containing a small proportion of alkali lye for the purpose of removing the albumen as well as fat and colouring-matters and water. The extract is concentrated by distilling off the alcohol and the albumen precipitated by weak acid, the fat and colouring-matters being subsequently extracted by means of a suitable solvent, such as benzene or ether. The starch is washed with hot spirit, which is finally evaporated in vacuo so as to leave pure, dry, and neutral starch. In the production of starch syrup or sugar by means of mineral acids, the removal of the husks and germs is unnecessary, the sugar juice being ultimately separated from the cellulose by filtration. The process for extracting the albumen can be applied to the residuum of the usual starch-producing process, and also to the residuum on the sieves.
