A New or Improved Automatic Guard to Prevent Accidents in the Process of Bottling Liquids under Pressure

Bottling. - Relates to turn-over machines for bottling liquids under pressure, and consists of a guard made in two parts, one part being fixed to the rotary bottle - holder, while the other is pivoted and is opened and closed automatically. The guard may be made of sheet metal, woven wire, &c. The fixed part A, B of the guard may be secured by rivets &c. at the back A, while its front edge is preferably lapped round a rod D, adjustably secured by set-screws E, or by pins N, &c. to the holder. One or more separate pieces may be attached to the rod D, and secured by rivets to the guard A, B. The movable part C' of the guard is pivoted at F, and is normally held open by the spring H attached to the arm 0, the projection G1 lying in the recess M cut in the edge of the fixed disc K. When the bottle-holder is rotated, the projection G1 is actuated by the disc K, and the guard is held closed, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, until the projection again reaches the notch M.
