546. Coupe, T. E. Jan. 9. Funnels. - Relates to funnels for filling casks, barrels, &c. with liquid. The tube C is supported by a bracket at the top of the funnel, and encloses a float B, which is connected by a wire rod D to the lever E. An outer tube c1 is arranged to slide on the tube C, and is provided with a valve c2 adapted to close the opening of the delivery spout L. The tube c' is supported by a link K from an arm on the revoluble rod J, which has a handle F formed with a knifeedge f1 adapted to engage in a notch in the lever E. When the float B is raised by the liquid in the vessel, the lever E is actuated to release the handle F, on which the tube c' falls and stops the outflow, while the handle F sounds a bell &c. M. The movement of the handle is facilitated by a spring on the rod J, or by a weight &c. The funnel may be provided with a scale, to indicate the quantity of liquid retained in it. The Provisional Specification also states that the valve may be released electrically.
