1669. Castleman, F. M. Jan. 24. Filling granular materials into sacks. Consists of an apparatus for lifting sacks or other loads for loading into waggons &c., and for transferring the contents of one sack &c. into another. The sack is placed on alifting- frame G having a fulcrum H running on vertical guide slots I. The frame G is raised or lowered by means of a winding-shaft C and ropes Y passing over pulleys X, X1. One end of the frame G is pivoted to links E pivoted on the shaft C. On rotation of the shaft C, the frame G becomes nearly vertical, so that the sack, which is retained by a stop N, can be readily transferred to a wagon or taken on a man's back. When the frame is in this position, an empty sack can be suspended with its mouth open on arms P (shown folded up) and thus be filled from the full sack or otherwise. The apparatus is preferably mounted on wheels S.
