Improvements in Apparatus for Grinding, Trueing, or Surfacing Leather Covered Rollers and the like Employed in Machines for Preparing and Spinning Textile Fibres

7095. Dronsfield, J. April 4. Rollers. - Relates to apparatus for grinding, trueing, and surfacing leather-covered rollers &c. used in machines for preparing and spinning textile fibres. The roller a to be ground is mounted in fast and loose headstocks q1 carried by a swinging frame r, which may be adjusted by means of a screw and hand-wheel s1 so as to regulate the distance between the roller a and the grinding-roller A. The roller A is mounted on a grooved shell or sleeve b containiog a single traversing-screw, which is driven alternately at a speed which is slightly greater and slightly less than that of the shell, in order to traverse the roller thereon. The shell is driven at a constant speed by a strap e2, and the screw is driven by two sets of fast and loose pulleys l*, l, l1, l1, the straps j, j' being moved automatically so as to bring one set or the other into action by means of a bar g carrying the strap forks i and provided with adjustable tappets g1, with which the roller engages at each end of the traverse. The grinding- roller is covered with a strip of emery, glass, or like cloth, the ends of which are clamped between a pair of plates n, n1 placed in a recess of the grinding disc or roller and secured by a screw p. Beneath the grinding-apparatus is a receptacle C for dust &c., which is fitted on one side with a door and on its upper part with a number of slits or apertures provided with louvres or flaps for directing the dust &c. into the box.
