Sewage and foul waters, treating ; filtering.- Ordinary V or # -shaped wood or other channels for distributing sewage or sewage effluents over the surface of filter beds are provided with thin strips of iron, or other metal, Fig. 1, which are slotted at regular intervals along the tnp edge and serrated along the bottom edge, the points of the serrations being exactly under the slots Fig. 2 shows the position of the strips on V shaped troughs, and Fig. 4 shows one position on U-shaped troughs, the sides of the troughs, in the latter case, being perforated opposite the slots. For adjusting their level, the troughs are mounted on crosspieces provided with coned ends for receiving discs which are eccentrically bored so that they may be adjusted to rest on the uneven surface of the filter bed. When the troughs are placed some distance apart, sheets of corrugated iron may be placed under the strips of iron, at right-angles thereto, and with a slight fall therefrom.
