14,211. Beist, E. June 23. Dilators for facilitating the introduction of liquids or powders into passagesof the human body. Fig. 7 shows the instrument closed for insertion into the passage, and Fig. 3 represents it opened so as to dilate the passage. A tube b is longitudinally grooved to form recesses, in which the arms a rest when closed. The arms are pivoted at g, and their upper ends work in radial slots in a plate fixed to the socket s, and also in curved slots in a disc which can be turned to open the arms by means of a handle i actuating a worm and worm-wheel k. The material to be injected is introduced by a pipe r and a tube d, the latter being arranged within the tube b. The corrugations of the tube d serve as air ducts to prevent excessive pressure.
