Fuel ; peat.-A binding-medium for coal, anthracite, lignite, peat, sawdust, iron-ore dust, &c. is obtained by adding resinate of lime to the fused residue from the distillation of hydrocarbons, particularly coal tars. The resinate of lime may be used in the natural state, or may be formed by adding lime to melted resin. The heavy oils in the residue are thus saponified, and the resulting mass becomes hard on cooling.
