16,262. Stern, W., [Tcherniack, A.]. July 22. Flyer frames ; building- motions.-The "jack shaft " is lengthened and drives through spur-wheels F, G and teeth H a casing E loose on the bosses Lx. Within the casing E are two loose pinions N engaging with two loose wheels 0, Ox, of which one has one tooth more than the other. Either of the wheels 0, Ox can be prevented from rotating while the other is connected with the rack shaft I, so that the shaft can be slowly rotated in either direction according to which of the wheels 0, Ox is prevented from rotating and which is connected with the shaft. On each side of the wheels 0, 0 x are clutch teeth a, b, of which the outer teeth a are engaged alternately by clutches Q carried by the fixed brackets P, and the inner teeth b are engaged alternately by a double clutch QX carried by the shaft I. In the position shown, the wheel O is held stationary, while Ox is connected with the shaft I. All the clutches are operated simultaneously by means of rods U, Ux and a sliding key T, which is reciprocated through the lever V and rod Z at each extremity of the traverse of the bobbin rail. The rods U engage with grooved rings Ix on the shaft I as shown. The rod Z is connected by studs g with the slotted ends of levers f, which are weighted in such a manner that, if the weights are allowed to act alternately, the levers will be oscillated and the rotation of the shaft I of the rack pinion reversed. The levers are blocked in their extreme positions by catches l, lx, acting alternately. The bobbin rail carries three slides n, nx, of which the slides nx rest against the inclined sides of the slide n, and the latter can be moved horizontally by means of a screw 0. The slides nx carry studs q, which disengage the catches l, lx at the ends of the traverse and are connected by chains p with the weighting- chains i, ix as shown. As the bobbin rail is approaching, say, the lower limit of its traverse, the left-hand chain p is tightened, thereby raising the weight jx and leaving the upper lever f free, so that, when the catch lx is released, the weight j will oscillate the levers and effect the reversal of the bobbin rail. The reversal is effected in a similar manner at the upper end of the traverse. The shaft of the screw 0 carries a pinion r, which, as the rail rises and falls, engages with teeth s on the end of a lever resting on a stud t as shown in Fig. 6x, so that at each reciprocation of the rail the slide n is moved so as to separate the slides nx and cause the reversal to be effected sooner than at the preceding reciprocation, and shorten the lift. The reciprocating rod Z is connected by the lever catches v with the catch wheel w for operating intermittently the rack connected with the strap fork of the cone drums.
