Drawings to Specification, Influence machines for the ignition of gases, inflammable vapours, explosives, and hightension fuzes, for use in producing high-tension currents for ozone, X-rays, and the like, and particularly for igniting the explosive mixtures used in gas, petrol, and other internal-combustion engines. The influence machine consists of a case, either of suitable insulating-material, or of metal, such as aluminium, lined with insulating-material, carrying a central axle upon which is mounted one or more dielectric plates, with suitable metal carriers or sectors arranged in the usual manner. The carriers are, however, preferably disposed between two dielectric plates, such as ebonite, the field or inductor plates being mounted close up on each side of the pair of plates, the insulating-mount also carrying the charging, collecting, and neutralizing conductors. To minimize leakage, the carriers may be embedded in the dielectric, except for a small projection for forming, or joining up to, the contact - pieces, while, instead of all the plates revolving in the same direction, some may be arranged to rotate in the opposite direction to the rest. The plates may be replaced by cylinders if desired, and a suitable condenser may be placed inside the case if a capacity is necessary in the working circuit. The Provisional Specification states that, with an ebonite dielectric, the embedded carriers may be vulcanized therein to improve the mechanical and electrical efficiency of the apparatus.
