Feeding sheets; cylinder machines; rotary machines.-Relates to an appliance to prevent the fingers from being trapped when feeding articles to machines employing rotary cylinders, rollers, or cones, such as printing-machines, and feed-rollers in general. Figs. 1 and 2 are vertical sections showing the guard in two different positions. The guard consists of a plate c, c1, the shape of which in cross-section may be either of those shown in Figs. 1 and 2 or otherwise. It is pivoted at both ends d along an axis lying below and in front of its centre of gravity, and one end c1 is heavier than the other so that it tends to fall into the position shown in Fig. 1, in which position articles can be fed beneath it to the machine. If the fingers come beneath it, they raise it to the position shown in Fig. 2, in which position it is caught and held by a catch h. A stop f prevents the end c' of the guard from falling too far forwards.
