Purifying oils; turpentine.-Russian oil of turpentine and similar products, and benzine or petroleum spirit, are purified by treatment, at a low temperature, with a solution of a permanganate, chromic acid, or a persulphate. The turpentine &c. is, preferably, first brought in contact with lime in the known manner, and is distilled with aqueous vapour.
