11,461. Walker, T. W. May 20. Rolling.-Mills for rolling rods, bars, &c., are provided with guides to direct the work from one pass to another or from one set of rolls to another. Each guide is composed of a number of trough sections bolted together, the outside plates of some sections, such as the plates o, p of the sections C, D being hinged to the bottoms to allow a loop in the bar &c. being rolled to escape from the trough when the pressure becomes excessive. One or more pairs of rolls a, o are provided in the section A to twist or turn the bar so that it is turned through a right-angle before entering the next pass. The shapes of the rolls are determined by the section of the work. For tandem mills, the guide may be a straight trough provided with twisting or turning rolls. The invention is stated to be an improvement on that described in Specification No. 10,452, A.D. 1898.
