13,472. Tooley, H. June 16. Actuating valves; sliding valves.-The flow of sewage or other liquid is automatically regulated so that an amount greater than say thrice, the normal flow cannot pass. The sluice valve f is supported by a rod g upon a cam i carried by a spur-wheel j, which is driven by clockwork and makes one revolution in 24 hours. The size of the aperture c varies inversely as the vertical radius of the cam from the shaft at any given moment. The shape of the cam is plotted according to the normal flow at each hour of the day as found by experiment. To provide for automatic stoppage of the apparatus at a time when the valve f is fully open, the apparatus is started with the lowest part of the cam in action, a stop being suitably arranged to arrest the descent of the clock-weight.
