A New or Improved Clip for Use in connection with Umbrellas, Walking Sticks, Bags and other Objects or Articles.

Holding closed. - Relates to a device used with umbrellas, walking- sticks, &c., for holding the address &c. of the owner, and for supporting them from a chair back, shelf, table top, &c. The device also acts as a clasp for the free ends of the ribs of umbrellas. Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the device as used for an umbrella. A small label 3 is arranged in a casing 4 made of sheet metal, the edges of which are bent over to form a guide for a slide 5, on which the label rests. The slide 5 is retained in the casing by means of a projection 6 protruding through a slot 7 in the casing 4, which is attached to, or made in one with, a metallic clip 2 arranged to clasp the stick of the umbrella. The clip is formed with a hole 8, through which passes a chain or cord for further securing the clip to the stick, the cord being the one usually used with a tassel or other ornament. The arms of the clip, or the cord attached to it, may be secured to the back of a chair, seat, table, &c., in order to suspend the umbrella. In a modification, Fig. 3, the clip is also provided with a second clip, preferably of spring steel, adapted to hold the free ends of the ribs when the umbrella is closed. A label may be similarly attached to bags, satchels, walking-sticks, &c., the clip being capable of suspension.
