Sept. 10. couplings, non- automatic.-To prevent accidental detachment of the pins of shackles for coupling colliery trams and for other purposes, the pins are made of spiral form so that the strain of the drawbar tends to draw them down. As shown, the pin may be of circular cross-section, and is provided with a link and ring, or a swivel handle D, to allow of the rotation of the pin when entering or leaving the shackle. The pin and the eyes of the shackle may also be of oval form, the draw-bar being adapted to engage with the flattened portion of the pin. If desired, the bow D need not be swivelled, but may be provided with a kink E, Fig. 3, which falls over and lies upon the shackle when the bow is released, a stop G causing it to fall always in one direction. In the Provisional Specification an arrangement is described by which, should the pin rise, a hand-ring is drawn into one of a number of serrations in an anchor catch on the shackle bow.
