Improvements in the Construction of Joints for Flanged Tramway and like Rails

23,882. Acaster, C. A Nov. 4. Rail joints; rail keys and wedges.-Relates to tramway and other rail joints, and is an improvement upon the devices described in Specification No. 4884, A.D. 1876. Fig. 1 shows a side and transverse sectional view of a rail joint. The rail is formed with bearing-faces B, B2 which may be either concave, tapered, or flat. The wedge F and fishplate E are made with one or more longitudinal grooves by which they fit against each other and into the flange and head of the rail. The point of the wedge F is split so that when it has been driven into position the part F' is bent down on the plate E and thus the wedge becomes locked in position. In Figs. 1 and 4, the fishplates are shown formed with flanges, while the modification shown in Fig. 2 is made without these extensions, and secured by bolts passing through the rail web.
