Steam Superheater with Concentric Tubes and its application to Tubular Boilers.

25,735. Notkin, N. Nov. 25. Superheaters, steam.-Fig. 2 shows the superheater detached, and Fig. 1 as applied to the tubes of a locomotive boiler. Steam from the compartment a1 of the superheater enters the inner tubes b and passes to the outer concentric tubes B, which are heated by the furnace gases. Thence, the steam reaches the compartment a of the superheater and proceeds to its destination. The course of the steam may be from the compartment a to the compartment a1. In order to impart a circuitous course to the steam, the tubes may be provided with helically-twisted wire, or may be constructed with similarly arranged ribs. In the case of a locomotive boiler, the superheater is disposed within the smoke-box A, Fig. 1, the tubes of the superheater passing into the smoke tubes of the boiler. Fig. 1 also shows in the smoke-box a movable plate by which the passage through the smoke tubes which contain the superheating-tubes, is prevented, but this in the Specification is neither described nor claimed.
