Kilns.-In a continuous kiln for burning blue, salt-glazed, and vitrified bricks, tiles, pipes, terracotta, lime, cement, and the like, side and end flues c, b are provided to allow the gases from the burning and cooling chambers at one side of the blueing or glazing chambers to be passed to chambers on the other side. The passage of gases through the side flues c is controlled by dampers J, and these flues are closed at the top by fireclay slabs i, which also serve as fuel surfaces. Hot gases enter the end flues b through apertures g in the division walls d, and these flues have dampercontrolled openings through which fuel and hot gases pass. The fuel is supplied through apertures a, and glazing-chemicals are supplied through openings a1, which may also serve to admit air, or for the introduction of additional fuel.
