Evaporators. - In evaporators of the single or multiple-effect type, a drum A through which pass vertical tubes, is surrounded b y a steam or vapour jacket B, supplied through openings b, b1 at the top and bottom from an inlet b'. Openings a, a2 in the inner casing admit steam to the drum. A jacketed bottom is fed from the inlet opening b2 by the pipe D. Instead o f the e annular jacket B, the steam or vapour may be passed through separate pipes or passages. A glass gauge tube to show the level of the liquid is fitted outside the evaporator. A down-take tube F may be fitted through the drum to convert the apparatus into a circulating evaporator.
