Direct air-pressure apparatus; direct steampressure apparatus. - Relates to apparatus for circulating water in any closed system of hot or cold water circulating pipes by means of steam or air pressure. Two closed tanks b, c, placed at or near the highest part of the system, are connected through non-return valves to the main flow pipe e and main return pipe d, so that the contents cf each are alternately discharged into the circulating- pipes. A heater or cooler m may be arranged, as shown in Fig. 1. Steam or compressed air is supplied from a boiler or other source through a pipe o to the tanks b, c. Fig. 2 shows, on an enlarged scale, the means for alternately filling and discharge ing the tanks. Within one tank is arranged a bucket s which actuates a valve q. The valve q controls the inlet of steam or air to the tanks and the outlet from each tank to the exhaust pipe x. With the parts as shown in Fig. 2, steam or air is passing through the openings v into the tank b, thus forcing any water in the bucket through the pipe h, which is fitted with a non-return valve, to the main flow pipe e. Water is prevented from flowing from the main return pipe d past a non- return valve to the tank b by the steam pressure in the tank. The water in the main return pipe d is flowing past a non-return valve into the tank c, which is open to the exhaust but closed to the steam inlet. When the bucket is empty, it rises and actuates the valve q through tumbling-lever mechanism t, so as to shut-off the steam or air supply to the tank b and admit steam or air to the other tank. The tank b is then open to the exhaust, while the water in the tank c is forced out past a non-return valve l to the main flow pipe e. Water then enters the tank b and eventually flows into the bucket s, causing it to sink and move the valve q to its original position. When steam pressure is employed, the exhaust may be passed through a condenser or feedwater heater y, the resulting hot water being supplied to the boiler or water-heater.
