Apparatus for Preventing Mine Cages from Falling in the event of the Winding Rope being Fractured

18,639. Rogers, M., Farnsworth, W., and Duke, R. Aug. 29. Safety suspending-apparatus.-Consists of a safety suspending - apparatus for mine cages and the like. Four shafts A are secured to the top and bottom of the cage, their ends screwing with a right or left motion, as required, into plates E through which pass guide-ropes C. Levers D are keyed to the shafts and are connected by links F. These links and the top of the cage are joined by chains J2, J1 to the suspending-device. In the event of failure, the levers fall into the position shown by dotted lines, turning the shafts in the plates E and causing them to nip the guide-ropes. With timber guides, pinions are fixed on the shaft ends ; each of these actuates two racks which clip the guides. Locking-clips G keep the plates E from unscrewing while the cage is in use. With a fractured winding-rope, the plates E screw on to the shafts A and allow the clips to fall on to studs H.
