摘要
22,105. Gatwood, W., and Willians, G. H. Oct. 14. Buffers for converting dead - end vehicles. The buffer guides 3, Figs. 4 and 8, may be built up of plates a s described i n Specification No. 15,791, A.D. 1896, or may be cast. They may be riveted to plates for attachment to the buffer beam or may have hardwood backings 2, as shown. The buffing-spring D rests between the collar C of the buffer rod and the corrugated pressed steel socket E, which abuts on the framing. A recoil spring H is mounted between washers and secured by the cottar G as shown. The framing may be strengthened b y pressed steel brackets, as shown in Fig. 6, consisting of channelled angle-pieces to which the sockets E are riveted centrally, or to one side if the spring is to be in line with the buffer. In other forms, stiffening-ribs and flanged guiding-holes for the buffer rod are pressed in the plates. Double brackets for use at the centre of the vehicle are pressed from one or more plates with ribs and flanged holes 3, Fig. 13, for the spring sockets. The bolt-holes 1 are flanged to lessen the risk of shearing the bolts. In another form, the ribbed plate 4, Fig. 8, of the bracket is bent and is riveted to the longitudinal member N. For aligned springs and buffers, the brackets are sunk in the framing as shown. The springs may consist of an outer spring B, Fig. 9, and an inner light spring A, which takes up small loads. Under heavy loads, the cup C comes against the short heavy spring B, which then acts also, the combined action being helped by the contact of the inclined fares F of the two springs.
