Balancing-devices; supporting load uniformly on severalpoints.-Apparatus for raising and lowering theatrical scenery consists of a shaft D, driven by worm gearing from a motor, carrying two loose pulleys E, E1 connected by crossed and open belts to pulleys F, F1 on shaft K. Ropes L attached to the scenery and counterweights P pass over a grooved drum G on the shaft K. The pulleys E, E1 are thrown into action by a clutch carried by a pivoted arm H1 actuated by chains R. The driving - apparatus may be duplicated, and, in case of breakdown, eyes carrying ropes are attached to the counterweight and scenes. The Provisional Specification describes an alternative reversing-device and two methods of driving the shaft by bevel gearing, together with a clutch mechanism.
