24,333. Desgraz. A. Nov. 10. Gas-producers.-To heat the producer, previously-prepared producer gas is admitted with an excess of air to the space above the fuel. Complete transformation of tar into gas and of carbon dioxide into carbon monoxide and the decomposition of water vapour are thus effected. Fig. 1 shows a producer a, heated by gas from an auxiliary producer b, with which it communicates by passages c, in the partition wall d. The producers are provided with a water seal. In operation, the producer a is first partly filled with fragments of limestone and then charged with fuel through openings n. Air is admitted to the producer b by a pipe m, and the evolved gas is passed into the producer a together with an air supply, preheated by passing through a tortuous passage f in the partition wall. The generated gas is exhausted through openings h and pipes i, and its heat may be utilized, for example, in the generation of steam.
