4357. Brookes, A. G., [Knowlton, M. D.]. March 2. Making cardboard and like boxes.-Relates to a disk cutter for scoring or cutting paper-board &c. in the manufacture of boxes &c. The disk 6 is journalled on an axle-pin 7, mounted over the bedroll of a cutting-machine in vertical slots 8 in a holder 4, attached to the dovetailed projection of a cutter-bar by a clamping-screw 23 and gib 24. The axle-pin also passes through openings in the ears 10 of a carrier 9, the upper end of which is bifurcated and loosely embraces an adjusting- screw 12 between two shoulders 13 thereon. A spring keeps the upper end of the carrier 9 pressed against an inclined guiding-wall, so that, when the screw 12 is turned, the carrier, and hence the cutter, is moved towards or away from the bed-roll. The axle-pin 7 comprises two screws a, b screwing one into the other. The heads of the screws press against the flanges 81 of the slots 8, and, by screwing the one into the other, the wear of the parts can be taken up. The holder 4 and carrier 9 may each have only one lower extension, the cutter being held firmly in relation to the holder and carrier by a screw and nut or by other means.
