Locomotives.-A locomotive and its tender are provided with a series of pipes with nozzles, connected to the boiler by a valve controlled by the driver, the object being to protect the train against attack. The pipe 4, connected to the boiler at the water level, divides at the T-shaped connexion 17 into two parts, one conveying steam to the nozzles 14, 15 above the cab, and to nozzles at each side of the boiler, the other leading off to the tender. The tender has cross tubes just below the framework joined to a longitudinal central tube which is connected by a flexible pipe with the engine tubes. The steam is controlled by a valve 35 in the cab, and small nozzles 28, 29 are provided whereby steam may be directed into the cab. Hot water may be used instead of steam.
