Buoys, receptacles for.-A skeleton guard or holder, from which a life-buoy can be readily dropped, comprises a metal bar a, Figs. 1 and 2, connected by flanges b to the ship's bridge &c. and provided with a hinged depending member c secured by a suitable latch fastening e, or by a turnbutton. The vertical member a' and part of the horizontal bar a may be rigidly attached together, as shown in Fig. 3, the other part a3 being hinged at a2 and normally secured by a turnbutton at f. The guard may be hinged at any of the flanged connexions, e.g. the two top flanges may be hinged at their top sides, the T-piece being made rigid with the rail, and the whole guard being adapted to swing outwards and upwards, in order to release the buoy.
