15,806. Sayer, R. C. Aug. 2. Crossings; points and switches.-Relates to a method of connecting the branch lines of railways and the like up to the main line without causing breaks therein. Fig. 1 shows a plan of the arrangement adopted for connecting a double branch and main line, Fig. 6 a side elevation of the end portions D, and Fig. 4 a transverse sectional view of the centre portion C. The vehicles which run upon the branch lines are fitted with auxiliary wheels or skates g adapted to engage inclines, Fig. 6, and so raise the vehicles clear of the main-line traffic and rails. The vehicles then run along an elevated railway, Fig. 4, until they are brought above and parallel with the main lines, when they move down a similar incline on to the main-line rails. When it is impossible for two vehicles or trains to meet, as in the system described in Specification No. 12,729, A.D. 1904, the vehicles are only raised sufficiently to just clear the mainline rails. Fig. 7 shows a side view of a modified arrangement in which skates h on the vehicles engage rollers p in the permanent way so as to raise the vehicle sufficiently to clear the main-line rails b.
