16,356. Cooke, H. J., and Ehrenfeldt, M. Sept. 14. Rail-and-road vehicles.-The vehicles are suspended from wheeled carriages or travellers running on an overhead track, and are themselves provided with wheels so that they can run on the ground when freed from their suspending-arrangements. The overhead track is also described with its crossings &c. The travellers run on the lower flanges of the girders or on rails thereon, and the vehicle body is suspended from them by slings and screw connections, several forms of which are described. Two forms are shown in Figs. 6 and 17. Four wheels c', carried by a frame c2, run between guides on the lower flange of the girder b, and a frame d, in which the vehicle e is carried, is hung from the springs c5 by screws d1 and nuts d3. The frame d may form part of the vehicle, so that the suspending-screw has to be cast loose, instead of being slacked off, to liberate the car. Each vehicle may be carried by a pair of travellers, between which a third traveller f is placed to carry an electric or other motor as shown in Fig. 12, which also shows brake shoes g operated through toggle-levers g2 and bell cranks g4 from the common rod g5.
