16,591. Stewart, J. K. Aug. 15. Hand driving- mechanism. - In a speed - multiplying device, the toothed gearing, co - axial shafts, and flywheel are contained in a casing. The casing consists of the two parts 1, 2 bolted together, their respective hubs 5, 13 containing the driving and driven shafts 6, 12. The shaft 6 has at one end a crank handle 19 and at the other end a gear-wheel 7, by means of which it drives the shaft 12 through the double gearwheel 9, the stud axle of which is fixed in the casing, and the keyed pinion 11. The shaft 12 has rigid with it a fly-wheel 14 and its reduced end 12a rotates in a socket of the gear-wheel 7, a flexibleshaft coupling being shown at the other end, for which form of shafting the device is preferably intended. The casing is also provided with a screwed boss so that it may be fitted to a portable standard &c.
