Heating and Cooling or Ventilating Systems for Automobile Vehicles.

Ventilating vehicles.-Relates to means for heating and ventilating the interior of a vehicle driven by an internal-combustion motor, and for cooling the jacket-water of the engine. ' The hot water passes from the cylinders 3 along the pipe 8 to a transverse cooling-coil 9, and thence through the stouter coil 10 arranged round the front of the vehicle, and back to the jacket through the pipe 11. The motion of the vehicle causes air to be forced through the coils 10, and afterwards through the warmer coils 9 to a hood in connexion with inclined baffle-plates 12, where it is deflected in part, or wholly, into the pipes 14, 16, or delivered through the outlet 22, according to the position of the suitably-controlled regulating-valve 20. Openings 19 in the pipes 16 admit the air to' the interior of the vehicle. A regulated amount of cold air is admitted to the pipe 16 along the valved pipe 17, which leads to the exterior of the vehicle and is provided with a hood 18 to collect the cold air. The rush of air through the coils 9, 10 assists in cooling the jacket-water of the engine. The coil 10 is provided with small baffle-plates 25 to guide the air on to the coil 9. and is arranged low down in the front of the vehicle to prevent obstructions from passing under.
