摘要
12,768. Lealand, A. June 1. Bottling. - Relates to a machine for filling jars, bottles, and like vessels with jam, sauces, patent medicines, and other similar substances. When the machine is used for filling jam into jars, the jam is run into a tank a, Fig. 9, which may be inclined towards its front end by rack-and-pinion gearing d, d' so as to cause the jam to pass through sluices f, Fig. 12, into conduits n, Fig. 1, in an inclined frame h carrying nests of measuring-vessels l. The jam &c. is assisted out of the tank by a paddle e2, Fig. 9, traversed along the tank on wheels e' when the tank is tilted. The vessels to be filled are placed in crates g2, Fig. 5, carried in a portable frame g, and arranged in series having the same inclination as the frame h. The frame g is brought under the frame h and all the crates and the contained jars are raised simultaneously by rack - andpinion gearing j, j1 to the nozzles r, Fig. 1, of the measuring- vessels. The valves of the measuring-vessels are all opened simultaneously by a lever q3 through spur-gearing q, q1, an, horizontal shaft p1, and link-work connected to the spindles m2 of the valves. Any surplus jam which remains after the measuring-vessels have all been filled is caught in a vessel t and returned to the tank. To adjust the capacity of the measuring-vessels, tubes of suitable diameter may be placed loosely around the valve spindles. The measuring-vessels may be enclosed in baths when it is desired to heat or cool the materials dealt with. When the apparatus is arranged for filling sauces, medicines, or other liquids into bottles, the frames carrying the crates are adapted to press the necks of the bottles against the nozzles of the measuring - vessels, means such as conical tubes being employed to guide the necks. Packing-rings may be used at the upper ends of these tubes to form tight joints if required.
