Marine governors; fluid relays.-The distributing-valves e, e', Fig. 1, of relay cylinders are set by the action of springs g, which are previously placed in tension by striking collars k, but are only able to act upon the release of levers o, effected by electro-magnets q, which, upon being excited through the operation of a governor pendulum, attract spring hooks p and release the levers o. The releasing-circuit is in each case broken again by the movement of the distributing-valve effecting the removal of a spring blade r carried by the valve spindle. By using two cylinders as shown and operating the throttle valve by a link d, the opening or closing of the valve is effected in two stages ; one relay cylinder only may be used. The governor pendulum, which swings fore and aft, is hung in a frame which can swing athwart the ship.
