3754. Haismer, L. Aug. 14. Surfacing; bevelling.-In a machine for shaping bricks &c. for arches, pilasters, walls, &c., particularly bevelled and tapered bricks for ' gauge ' work in brick arches, the work is held in position by suitable stops or rests upon a table which can be tilted relatively to the plane of the grinding- disk, and which can be reciprocated across the disk by hand. The grinding-disk d, Fig. 2, the front face d3 of which is recessed at the centre, is mounted in bearings b on the frame a. The work x is mounted on a table e', which can be adjusted towards and away from the grinding-disk d along slides on a frame e. The frame e is clamped to a cylindrical rod f, which is supported by rollers f1, f1, f2 so that it can be reciprocated axially and also rotated to tilt the table. The rear portion of the frame e is supported by a roller g1 mounted on a pivoted plate g, which can be adjusted by a screw g3. Adjustable stops are mounted on the frame to limit the reciprocation of the table. The table e1 is provided with stops h angularly adjustable by screws h1, against which the brick x can be placed to square off the ends as shown in Fig. 4. The table is tilted to give the necessary bevel. To taper the side of the brick, an additional frame i, Fig. 5, is mounted on the table e1 and carries a stop i1 angularly adjustable by slots and nuts, also a fixed stop i2 and adjustable stop i3. The stops or abutments are varied in accordance with the work that is to be done.
