6678. Ashton Bros. & Co., and Watson, S. March 20. Warp threads, uniting; yarns, leasing.-To prepare leases for warp-uniting machines, the lease, comprising the cloth end, yarn, reed, and harness, is removed from the loom and placed upon a frame a having brackets or columns b supporting a top cross-rail c. Frame brackets d, which hang from the rail c, are provided with bars e for carrying the healds. Brackets f, which are connected to the brackets d or to separate brackets g carried by the rail c, support the detector bars (if any), the lease-rods, and the striking comb and cap ; the curved portions h support the lease-rods, and the notched portion i the comb and cap. Thumbscrews j are provided for adjusting the height of the brackets d, g, and the bars e slide in their brackets and are secured in position by suitable holding means. The reed l rests on a grooved rail n, and is held by swivel blocks &c. o carried by brackets p on a cross-beam q. A grooved block r of a tongue clamp, which extends across the machine, is carried by brackets s sliding on horizontal guides t. The brackets may be moved to and from the harness supports to accommodate different lengths of leases by turning a wheel w on a shaft x, which carries pinions u engaging with a rack v. A pawl y or its equivalent holds the brackets in correct position. The yarn is led over a card-covered swivelling cross-block 2 extending across the machine and carried by a shaft 3 provided with a hand-!ever 4, which carries a spring- finger adapted to enter slots 5 in a quadrant 6. After tension has been put on the threads by means of the handle, the lease-rods are drawn towards each other, so as to bring the crossing points of the yarn opposite to the comb backing i. A comb is then inserted at the crossing points, the lease-rod nearest the stretching-device is removed, and the comb is run through the yarn towards the stretching-device and beyond the clamp, to straighten the yarn. The stretching-device may then be moved to slacken the yarn somewhat, and a plush-covered tongue is inserted in the clamp r, and firmly secured. The lease may then be placed in the warp tying or uniting machine, or it may be rolled up and removed to a store room till required. Instead of a swivelling carded block, a swivelling plush-covered draw-clamp may be used.
