Breaking and scutching apparatus ; heckling-machines.-Relates to decorticating - machines, more especially those of the duplex type, for stripping or cleaning coarse grasses and vegetable fibres such as sansiveria grass. The heckle pins are dispensed with, or are employed in combination with scrapers of channel section, which are adjustably secured to the heckle chains so that one overlaps the other, as shown in Fig. 2. The edges of the scraper are preferably serrated or the edges of alternate scrapers may be plain. The blades are made deep so that the carrying-bars are far apart, and the bottom scraper is provided with an incline F at the feed end in order to ensure an uninterrupted feed. An endless rope, chain, or cable H is fitted at each side of the top grip chain to detach any fibres which adhere thereto. It is mounted and driven in a similar manner to the bottom feed-chain described in Specification No. 4696, A.D. 1907. According to the Provisional Specification, a bar attached to the framework of the pressure blocks may be used in place of the top chain H.
