Dynamometers.- In an apparatus for measuring the thrust or traction in a propeller shaft for ships, aerial machines, &c., or for measuring the resistance of a ship to motion, one or more pairs of flexible disks B C, D E are introduced between the ends of the shaft. As shown, each of the pairs of disks B C, D E is formed of one piece. Levers G, H, pivoted at one end and carrying blocks J, K, adapted to bear against the surfaces a, b of the disks A, F, are connected at the other end to links L, M joined by a spring P. The link L is pivoted to an indicating-pointer O, and the link M to a sliding carriage N. The indication given by the apparatus is thus not influenced by slight displacements of the shafting as a whole in an axial direction.
