Flying t o y s.- An aerial machine which on a smaller scale may be used as a flying toy has one or more aeroplanes P fixed to an open framework F which carries the power for driving a screw propeller J placed at the rear of the machine. At the front of the machine is a flexible rod D carrying an adjustable weight C which is fixed in any position by india-rubber washers B on the rod. The framework consists of three rods F of wood, bamboo, or cane, fastened to circular end pieces E by wiring ; or the end pieces may have sockets or clips for the reception of the rods. The aeroplane consists of strips G of cane, bamboo, &c., bent upwards at the rear tips and covered with fabric or paper. The strips G are secured together by clips N, Fig. XII, and to the frame rods F by clips O, Figs. X and XI. The rod D, Fig. VI, is secured by a clip M to the lower frame rod F, the front end of the clip being turned up and secured by a hook L. The machine is driven by a twisted elastic H which is secured at one end to the hook L and at the other end to a wire carrying the propeller J, two small domed washers R being passed over the wire to form bearings for the propeller. The propeller comprises a circular boss, to which are secured blades J formed of wood veneer strengthened by pasting varnished paper or fabric to the sides.
